About Me

I am currently entering my final year of a 4 year Computer Science Degree at the Institute of Technology Tallaght, Dublin. My goal, upon completion of my course, is to further my career in the IT industry while constantly learning and improving my already capable skill set. As of the start of September I will begin the last year of my course. I am aiming for a result of a 1.1 distinction Honours Degree, and am confident in my ability to achieving this. I feel that during this time, in both ITT and at VHI, I have gained the extensive technical, theoretical and practical experience required for a graduate job on completion of my degree in June 2019. I can learn quickly and also enjoying teaching what I know to others. I am a fantastic team player with excellent interpersonal and IT based skills. I can also produce the necessary results required when on a deadline, as I have done at VHI. I feel I can be an excellent addition to any team, especially one requiring an ambitious and motivated character. Support given to me will be reciprocated in the form of hard work and dedication to the task(s) at hand.

Experience

College Work Placement

VHI IT Solutions

I began a work placement in February with VHI and it has been a fantastic experience for me. It has improved my understanding of the inner workings of IT, as used in the business world, whilst also understanding the necessary requirements for building and structuring IT projects, both alone and in a team. My work in the Automation team consisted of writing scripts and test cases in both UFT and Selenium. In the Web-Development team I was introduced to software I hadn’t used before, such as Gradle and Web-logic, both of which I am now proficient in. I gained much knowledge while at VHI after being shown many new technologies and software such as those mentioned above.

February 2018 - August 2018

Painter and Decorator

Ireland / Australia

Previous to my current course I completed a four-year Painting and Decorating Apprenticeship. I genuinely loved this job as it brought out the creative and artistic side in me whilst also teaching me the responsibilities of completing a job correctly and on time. Unfortunately, due to the economic climate the industry took a massive blow resulting in my decision to change direction to better my future. My experience in the Painting industry gave me the necessary attitude and determination to succeed in life and in my career.

September 2003 - September 2011

Assistant Bar-Manager

The Molly's Bar & Restaurant

In this position, I led a small team of four to five people. This role required responsibility and the ability to work under pressure, with a very demanding set of customers, along with excellent team work for smooth operation. I fulfilled duties required of me to run the establishment in the absence of the owner who trusted me fully. Responsibilities increased to include stock ordering, day-to-day running of the establishment, overseeing the running of the kitchen and its smooth operation, customer correspondence and of course opening and closing responsibilities including cash settling at the end of the night.

1st Year Website

1st year project, which was originally Just done in Notepad++ as a static website but since learning the Java Play Framework I have implemented it in this. A very Good learning experience overall. Can be viewed here

2nd Year Website

Website done in the Play Framework. A group project where all the work was shared out between three members. This helped me understand how to work in a team. We got a grade B for this project which although was disappointing, I took a lot of lessons from this project. Can be viewed here

3rd Year Website

Again a Java Play Framework Project, This had a dynamic reaction which allowed the user to add products to and from a database. This site also had a customer and administrator which made it more unique. Again this was a group project, which was challenging but very beneficial. Can be viewed here

Raspberry Pi

Currently a side Project in which I am trying to make my Raspberry Pi act as a server in which I could host similar version of Drop box / OneDrive

Data Analytics Football Project

A current project I am working on outside of college,Using data trying to be able to predict football results.
